Pakistan's NADRA has launched a mobile app to modernize civil registration, a key part of its 2024 digital transformation. This aims to enhance service delivery and security for citizens nationwide.
The new mobile application empowers citizens to remotely register vital life events like births, deaths, and marital status changes from home. NADRA Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar emphasized the app's focus on simplifying and modernizing these essential services. This builds upon NADRA's successful previous deployment of digital ID cards on smartphones through the Pak ID platform.
To ensure accurate and secure data, NADRA is deploying biometric verification facilities in Punjab's union councils. The app utilizes biometric authentication, leveraging Pakistan's existing widespread biometric systems. Furthermore, "one-window" NADRA service counters in Islamabad will provide integrated services, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and offering on-site assistance for citizens.
Complementing the app, NADRA has released an updated non-chip Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This new card is bilingual, meets international standards, and includes a QR code linking to the Pak ID app. It also features indicators for organ donor status and disability, with tiered pricing for accessibility and free issuance for first-time applicants over 18.
This integrated digital approach promises a more efficient and secure future for civil registration and identity management in Pakistan.
